This show is a synergy of two different mediums that I love, fiber art and plein air painting. This work documents quiet places I have traveled by foot and bike as well as my family’s lineage of women who can manipulate needle and thread in incredible ways. Taking the long tradition of quiltmaking and crafting it into my own has not only allowed me to spend more time in nature but has connected me with generations before. I have taken pattern inspiration from traditional Texas quilts as well as improv or “crazy quilts.” The bold colors are influenced by the palettes of the Gee’s Bend quiltmakers. The process of making these may have started as a gift to myself but the finished work is something I pass on to the viewer, inviting them to listen in on my visual conversation with the outdoors.
