Centro to Launch Hydration Stations Throughout the Month of August

Throughout August, Centro San Antonio will partner with Sweat Equity to host a series of Hydration Station pop-ups across downtown San Antonio. These weekly stations will feature resources such as bottled water, electrolyte packets, heat safety literature, and IV hydration designed for downtown workers, residents, and visitors on the go to help them stay refreshed and conquer the summer heat. TownePlace Suites by Marriott and Dewy Skin Studio will alternate as host location on Fridays, with the first and second event located at TownePlace by Marriott starting on August 9 and August 16 followed by the remaining two at Dewy Skin Studio on August 23 and August 30. The series will kick off on Friday, August 9, with Heather O’Neill from Sweat Equity providing support and training to Centro Ambassadors before the event begins. Bottled water, electrolyte packets, and heat safety literature will be available to the public for free while supplies last. IV hydration services will be offered at a cost ranging from $79 to $150.

Downtown temperatures can be as much as 20 degrees higher than in other parts of the city, creating a significant heat island effect. With 10-day forecasts predicting temperatures near or over 100 degrees throughout August, Centro’s Hydration Stations aim to provide relief with the resources listed. Additionally, the Centro Hydration Station complements the San Antonio Metropolitan Health District’s recently launched hydration education campaign, “Beat the Heat.” This campaign highlights ways to stay cool, the availability of cooling centers, how to recognize signs of dehydration, and the importance of seeking shade and drinking water throughout the day, furthering that access to shade is critical for vulnerable groups which can be the difference between life and death. “Beat the Heat” campaign literature will be available at all Hydration Stations.
