The Centro Ambassadors are the visible stewards of Downtown San Antonio, committed to maintaining the spaces that define our city.
Operating 365 days a year, this highly visible, mission-driven team works behind the scenes and on the streets to elevate the downtown experience for residents, businesses, and visitors alike. From litter abatement and sidewalk cleaning to landscaping, bird mitigation, and Quality of Life outreach, the Ambassadors deliver essential services that ensure our urban core remains vibrant, cared for, and thriving.
Types of Centro Ambassadors
Recognizable by their iconic Centro yellow shirts, our Hospitality and Maintenance Ambassadors are a constant presence throughout Downtown San Antonio. This team delivers the essential services that keep downtown polished and welcoming, including landscaping, litter abatement, pressure washing, bird mitigation, graffiti removal, and daily infrastructure support. They are the hands-on force behind a cleaner and more vibrant urban core.
Centro’s Quality of Life (QoL) Ambassadors serve as a critical bridge between downtown and the community members who need support most. Recognizable in their blue shirts, this specialized team works directly with vulnerable and unsheltered individuals, providing compassionate engagement and connecting them to vital city and nonprofit services. From navigating the homeless response system to coordinating access to shelter, healthcare, and other resources, QoL Ambassadors help ensure individuals receive the assistance they need while contributing to a safer, more supportive downtown environment. Their work is rooted in dignity, partnership, and solutions.
Centro’s Crisis Response Team (CRT) Ambassadors are a specialized unit composed of former and retired SAPD officers, bringing decades of public safety experience to downtown. Working alongside both the Hospitality & Maintenance and Quality of Life teams, CRT Ambassadors provide an added layer of safety support through de-escalation, situational awareness, and crisis intervention. They assist individuals experiencing mental health challenges, help stabilize complex situations, and serve as a critical bridge between community services and law enforcement when necessary. Their presence strengthens coordination, enhances response, and reinforces Centro’s commitment to a safe and supportive downtown for all.
Behind every Ambassador team is a strong layer of leadership. Represented by their green shirts, Centro’s Department Leads bring experience, seniority, and operational oversight to each division. They coordinate daily assignments, provide on-the-ground guidance, and ensure teams remain aligned, responsive, and efficient. Serving as mentors and problem-solvers, Department Leads support all Ambassadors in the field, keeping operations seamless and downtown running smoothly.
