Centro San Antonio Champions the Emergence of Downtown West
WEST SAN ANTONIO, TX — West of the River Walk, a new chapter of downtown is taking shape. Over the past few years, San Antonians have watched the rise of some of downtown’s newest architectural gems, modern silhouettes that now define the western edge of our skyline. But beyond the brick and mortar, something bigger is emerging: Downtown West, San Antonio’s newest district, where culinary, creativity, culture, and community are redefining the downtown experience.
This fall, Downtown West celebrates its emergence with a series of activations and awareness campaigns, beginning with the installation of new district banners. In partnership with Centro San Antonio, these banners will serve as visual landmarks, symbolizing its growing identity within the downtown core.
Furthering this collaboration, Downtown West will also join Centro’s Art Everywhere Project, unveiling a new collection of murals that tell the story of a district built on imagination and purpose. The art aims to capture Downtown West’s spirit, not just as a place to live, but as a launchpad for creativity, progress, and cultural pride. These works will stand as both reflection and catalyst, illustrating how art and place can shape the city’s future. All Bexar County residents are eligible to apply for this opportunity using the following application link: Built For Good Mural Application
The celebration culminates with Journey West, a new signature event designed to bring businesses, locals, and visitors together through live music sponsored by Silver Eagle and Twisted X Brewery, exclusive deals, and prizes. As part of the festivities, the beloved Alamo Music’s Guitar Wars, returns to the spotlight. Known as the nation’s longest-running guitar competition, this local favorite takes center stage at Legacy Park, in front of Pinkerton’s Barbecue, on Thursday, October 23, 2025 from 6-10pm. Grab a passport at Legacy Park and explore the neighborhood by walking or hopping on a free electric shuttle provided by DEST to any of the 18 participating businesses for Journey West. Free parking is provided for eventgoers at the Frost Tower parking garage and Alamo Music parking lot while available.
“Guitar Wars is one of those events that I always wished more people knew about because the talent is so amazing!” Said Adriana Flores, owner of Alamo Music. “Transitioning the event from a stand-alone venue to a neighborhood block party where more people get to hear and enjoy the amazing talent of these guitar players, is a dream come true!”
“We’re so excited to see Downtown West taking shape as one of downtown’s most vibrant neighborhoods,” said Trish DeBerry, President and CEO of Centro San Antonio. “Downtown West represents what’s possible when community, creativity, and collaboration come together, and as downtown enters a new era of development, this district will play a pivotal role in defining San Antonio’s future as a destination for living, entertainment, and opportunity.”
With new eateries and developments on the horizon, such as The Continental Residences opening in Winter of 2026, while building on the strong and vibrant existing local business community, the district’s momentum shows no signs of slowing down.
