SAN ANTONIO, TX - In every great city, there’s an unseen force keeping things moving quietly, consistently, and with purpose. In Downtown San Antonio, that force has a name: the Centro Ambassadors.
“Who are you going to call?” It’s more than a familiar phrase, it’s a daily reality in the city’s core, where 120 Centro Ambassadors show up and stand ready to serve.
Operating across the Downtown Public Improvement District, the Ambassadors are the heartbeat of the clean, safe, and welcoming experience. Their work spans far beyond the visible, from pressure washing sidewalks and removing graffiti, to assisting visitors, supporting local businesses, and engaging with unsheltered neighbors through Centro’s Crisis Response Team.
They are the first to notice, the first to respond, and often, the first to lend a hand.
In recognition of their extraordinary impact, Bohanan’s Prime Steaks and Seafood will host a special appreciation luncheon on May 4 at 12 p.m., in honor of the Centro Ambassadors during National Travel and Tourism Week, a nationwide celebration of the people who shape how cities are experienced and remembered.
The luncheon will bring together city leaders, Centro leadership, and community partners for an open forum of gratitude and recognition, celebrating the individuals who help define Downtown San Antonio every single day.
“The Centro Ambassadors are not only the backbone of Centro San Antonio, but of our entire downtown community,” said Trish DeBerry, President and CEO of Centro San Antonio. “Their dedication, visibility, and commitment to service help shape the experience of everyone who visits and calls downtown home. We’re incredibly grateful to partners like Bohanan’s who recognize and celebrate their impact, especially because approximately 30% of our ambassadors come from homelessness or it is their first job out of sobriety or drug addiction.”
“At Bohanan’s, hospitality has always been about more than what happens inside our dining room, it’s about the experience of the entire downtown,” said Mark Bohanan, chef and owner of Bohanan's Prime Steaks and Seafood. “The Centro Ambassadors are the quiet professionals who make that experience possible long before a guest ever sits down at our table. They care for the streets, the people, and the spirit of this city, and we are honored to celebrate them.”
While the numbers reflect the scale, the true impact of the Centro Ambassadors is felt in everyday moments, from a clean street and a safe path to a welcoming smile or a helping hand when it’s needed most.
Because when downtown needs support, you already know who to call:
The Centro Ambassadors.
